Sunday Selections # 134 or setting the stage for a beautiful wedding!

The Sunday Selections meme is hosted by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. A chance to show off some of the photographs you have gathering dust in murky corners.

These photographs haven't had a chance to gather dust at all yet!  They were all taken at the wedding of my sweet niece, Ali and her lovely Scott.  Oundle Mill in the UK was the venue for the wedding with the loveliest Registrars who made it such a special occasion.

Ali collected all the wedding pictures from both sides of the family to display at the reception.  The dear little bridesmaid is me with my father, one of the very few photographs I have of him.

Two posts in two days, this one is a stitching one!

hi
Hmm, best intentions and all that - only kept up with Sunday Selections and nothing else so...... what else has been happening by the lake?

Airborne August
What's that soaring through the air with the greatest of ease? It's the things with wings on your WIPs!

Shamelessly imitating the shoehorning going on over here I'm going to begin by lulling you all into a false sense of security showing you something that DOES have wings, albeit very small ones!

Brightneedle
Birdneck Sampler

See?  Bird, just to right of the B!  So, I need advice - well first I must point out that the sawtooth border was giving me fits - fifteen stitches then a colour change and lots of them.  I bought a Needle Necessities instead (and yes, my yarn shop that sort of pretends it's an LNS is still selling NN thread) and am fairly whistling along now, just need to remove the border on the left.  Where was I?  Oh right, advice - well, I really don't like the orange that is separating each of the sections.  To my mind it is a much brighter colour than the rest of the palette and I want to substitute something.  A friend suggested the old gold shade that's in the *new* border.  What do you think?

Now for more wings, sort of.....

Little Green Plot (adapted)
Sweet Honey
Songbird Cottage

My tastes have changed considerably which is one of the disadvantages of finally finishing a WiP - it's a struggle when you are not so crazy about the design, lovely though they are but a bit *twee* for me now.  Anyway, these are getting shoehorned in, well two of them are, Sweet Honey has bees, well go on, just imagine you can see them and Songbird Cottage......well it's all in the name and the little charm on the top right!  I made all three into tiny quilts, the fabric was perfect.

Well, with these three is where it definitely gets a bit shoehorned!  Blogger is not letting me put captions underneath, it shoots the first one further up the post so phooey!  The top one of the three is Ally's RR, Christmas Memories by Helen Phillips from our Friendly Stitchers' Round Robin, I stitched the ivy but there IS a robin (wings again) on it.  There's a blackbird on the LHN Woodland Winter that I sent to Marjorie in an exchange, third time of stitching, I really need to stitch it for ME, lol!  The third is a Joan Elliott piece that was Niina's choice in the Round Robin.  Have to say, not my favourite, so many colour changes and usually only for a few stitches.  That one doesn't have any wings on it, I don't think but...... all of the above were sent to the recipients by plane!  So, wings

This is what we have to look forward to in September.......

Sampler September
Whether you're stitching the alphabet over and over (and over), starting your own band (sampler), or marking some spots, this is your month!
What else have I got to show you?  Oh yes, another exchange - a July 4th one on Friendly Stitchers.  I was paired with Nancy in beautiful San Diego and this is what she sent me, a beautiful pin keep, I really like the patriotic edging on it.

and I sent her this, I took a small part of Betsy's House by Plum Street Samplers.

Not only is Blogger not letting keep pictures where I want them, it is also not letting me align to the left, drat it! I liked this little ornament but not sure if I will stitch the entire piece.

Well, that's enough for now, I will leave you with a picture of evening light on our lake.

Hope all is well with you, leave me a comment and if you are new to the blog, thank you for visiting and tell me how you got here!

Love,

Sunday Selections # 133 Or Why Didn't I Buy Those Mugs?

The Sunday Selections meme is hosted by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  A chance to show off some of the photographs you have gathering dust in murky corners.

Today we are in Helsinki, a city I was lucky enough to visit in (pause to count on fingers) 2011.  The World Traveller had a convention/show thingy there and so I said I wasn't being left behind so book me a flight, please.  We were in the middle of our all too short two years back in the UK so not as expensive as it sounds!

This has turned out to be the textile/décor post, quite clearly!

These were the most luscious looking scarves and cowls
in a wonderful linen yarn - I wanted them all!

The Marimekko store - a spare arm and leg
would have been useful here, Finland is expensive!

The  Marimekko store was a feast for the eyes but expensive.  I rather regret not buying a couple of these while I was there, our hotel used them every day for the banquet that masqueraded as breakfast.  Smoked salmon to start the day, definitely!

We'll come back to Finland some other time!

Sunday Selections #132 Or I Wish My Garden Had These Beauties

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an on going meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at
Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.

I first found the above on the wonderful blog written by Elephant's Child from Canberra and was rather intrigued - even more so when EC gave us wonderful pictures of Antartica, her garden and birds, oh my, such birds!  I encourage you to wander over to her blog and find out for yourself.

I have been thinking that I need to be a little more "random" in my postings to keep in line with my blog title so Sunday Selections is a small beginning.  I have spent the whole day looking at family photographs trying to find wedding pictures for my niece to use in a display at HER wedding in a week or so.  Very sad not to find pictures of my mum's second wedding to my stepfather in the search.  Hopefully they are just temporarily mislaid.

Enough of the whining - like EC I want to go with a theme each week and this week - flowers, sadly NOT in my garden, I think all the pictures came from a garden walk the WT and I did in 2011 when we were living in Michigan the first time.  No words since I have no idea of specific names just that you are looking at hollyhocks, roses, iris and a hydrangea!
